About

Common Man Training, LLC offers quality firearms training for average law-abiding people like you or those you know. We understand everyone can't be in the Special Forces or member of a SWAT team. Many of us also can't afford the time or money it takes to get quality training at well-known gunfighting schools like Gunsite Academy or Thunder Ranch, but still want to learn more about using firearms in a practical defensive manner.  Courses at Common Man Training are of short duration, limited size, and available nearby year-round. While we cater to less-experienced shooters, even those with more experience can benefit. We train to high standards while taking a crawl-walk-run approach to help shooters improve their mindset, gun handling skills, practical marksmanship and confidence with firearms. Ultimately, we strive to make firearms training safe, rewarding and fun for everyone, regardless of age or prior experience.

Mission:

To teach law-abiding citizens effective defensive skills, techniques, and habits in order to improve their ability to employ firearms in a safe, efficient and responsible manner in practical shooting situations.

Cost:

Tuition is $100-200 per person, per class, plus a $10 range fee unless otherwise noted. Classes do not include firearms, ammunition or personal equipment, though these are available for rent. Individual tutorials are $100 per person for two hours. Public servants (LEOs, firemen, educators, and active military) with a valid ID receive a 10% discount off tuition. Payment may be made by cash or check at the beginning of the course.

Location:

Training locations may vary.  Ranges near Southport and Jacksonville are normally utilized. The instructor will pass information or specific directions as necessary before class.

Duration:

Each course typically runs from approximately 8:30am-1pm, then 2pm-6pm. Full-day classes include one hour for lunch. The NC CCH class is a minimum of nine hours. Schedules for more advanced classes may vary to account for low light firing.

Safety:

Only the highest standards of safety will be accepted from all students. Major infractions (negligent discharge or covering another person with a muzzle) will result in immediate expulsion from the class with no refund. No exceptions. Minor infractions will result in a warning and coaching. Repeated minor infractions may also result in expulsion from class.

Payment and Refund Policy:

Payment is generally due to the instructor or an authorized representative no later than 48 hours before class to hold a space unless other prior arrangements are made. Payment may be made via cash, check, or Venmo. No refunds will be offered - no exceptions. Sudden cancellations are disruptive and potentially deny other students the opportunity to train. In the event of a serious, emergent reason for cancellation such as sudden illness, the student may be re-scheduled one time for another class within one year. Please contact the instructor with questions.
